The refurbishment of a 20-year-old village shop run by volunteers in South Gloucestershire will be completed thanks to a contribution from a local house builder.

Cotswold Homes Ltd, which is building houses and bungalows in the rural picturesque village of Tytherington, has stepped in to give the new-look shop’s management committee ‘peace of mind’ by contributing towards a new closed-circuit television (CCTV) security system.

‘We welcome the firm’s support in this way as well as the fact that the owners of their new homes will also be good for our business,’ says the management committee’s chair, Daphne Brown.

She hopes that many of them will make use of the shop as well as the village pub, church and post office, all of which are ‘on the doorstep.’

The shop’s newly-launched coffee and tea take-away service is already proving popular with those working on-site at The Paddocks, as the new scheme has been named.

The Paddocks – described by Cotswold Homes’ sales and marketing director, Terri Hayes-Pugh, as ‘a leafy enclave at the heart of the village’ – will include two-bedroom bungalows as well as three- and four-bedroom high-specification detached family homes.

‘Despite their popularity, brand new bungalows are rarely available to buy in this area but we aim to have the first ones ready for occupation later this year,’ says Terri.

‘We have designed them externally to reflect the local style of existing homes in the village. They will feature stunning interiors with imaginative and spacious internal layouts.’

Terri predicts that her firm’s no-hidden-extras policy will play a key role in attracting buyers at The Paddocks.

She said: ‘Our purchase prices include the big five fully-integrated appliances – oven, hob with a feature hood, fridge-freezer, washer-drier and integrated dishwasher – as well as contemporary vinyl flooring in some areas of the home.’

‘We welcome the firm’s support in this way as well as the fact that the owners of their new homes will also be good for our business,’ says the management committee’s chair, Daphne Brown.
